Pakistan – a wonderful destination for adventure tourism

ISLAMABAD: Those who think that Pakistan is all about historical sites, great cuisine, exciting cities and bustling bazaars may be not be aware that Pakistan is also an excellent destination to enjoy adventure sports.

There are a number of adventure sport destinations in Pakistan, which one can travel to. And the range of the adventure sports in the country is immense.

From jeep safari to mountaineering, from fishing to river rafting, from skiing to trekking, Pakistan is endowed with such geographical features that make it excellent tourist destination for adventure sports.

Pakistan is home to some tailor made destinations for adventure sports be it jeep safari, river rafting, mountaineering or trekking. The country is home to five of fourteen peaks above 8,000 metres – K-2, Nangaparbat, G-I & II and Broadpeak. Besides, 70 percent of mountain peaks above 7,000 metres are also located in Pakistan.

Its rivers tumbling down from the snow capped mountains and glaciers are great for water sports like river rafting, canoeing, sailing and kayaking. Pakistan also offers beautiful spots for skiing. Malam Jabba is one of the best skiing resort. If jeep safari is what gives one thrill, perhaps there is hardly any destination as exciting as the Northern Areas. There are various destinations in northern Pakistan that provide wonderful opportunities for jeep safaris. Some of the destinations that can be visited for jeep safari include Gilgit, Hunza, Shandur, Sust and Skardu. لاہور(رپورٹ :ڈویلپمنٹ رپورٹنگ سیل) آج پوری دنیامیں غلامیت کے خاتمے کا عالمی دن منایا جارہاہے لیکن دوسری جانب اکسویں صدی میں بھی غربت کے باعث ترقی پذیر ممالک میں غلامانہ طرز کی جھلک عام نظر آتی ہے کم آمدنی والے کئی ممالک میں یا تو جبری مشقت کے باعث انسان ذہنی وجسمانی لحاظ سے جکڑا ہواہے یا پھر وہ فروخت ہوکر دولت مندوں کی ہوس کا نشانہ بنتا ہے۔جنگ ڈویلپمنٹ رپورٹنگ سیل کی رپورٹ کے مطابقپاکستان میں 17 لاکھ افراد غلامانہ طرز زندگی گزار رہے ہیں، بالخصوص بھٹہ مزدوروں سے16 تا18 گھنٹے روزانہ کام لیاجارہا ہے، ان مزدورں کی رجسٹریشن ہوتی ہے نہ ان کے شناختی کارڈ بنتے ہیں، دنیا میں 8سے 9لاکھ افراد سالانہ جبری مشقت اور جنسی سرگرمیوں کیلئے فروخت کئے جاتے ہیں جن کا 80فیصد خواتین پر مشتمل ہے اورایسی خواتین کا 70فیصد جنسی حوس کا نشانہ بنتی ہیں۔ جنگ ڈویلپمنٹ رپورٹنگ سیل نے مختلف ذرائع سے جو اعدادوشمار حاصل کئے ہیں ان کے مطابق آج بھی دنیا میں 2کروڑ 70لاکھ افراد غلامانہ طر ز زندگی گزارنے پر مجبور ہیں جبکہ ایک کروڑ 25لاکھ افراد جبری مشقت کررہے ہیں۔ 84لاکھ بچے بھی غلامانہ طرز زندگی گزاررہے ہیں یہ بچے یا تو سمگل کردیئے جاتے ہیں یا پھر انہیں جنسی مقاصد کیلئے استعمال کیاجاتاہے۔ سالانہ 12لاکھ بچے مزدوری یا جنسی مقاصد کیلئے سمگل کردیئے جاتے ہیں۔ دنیا میں غلامانہ زندگی گزارنے والے افراد کی بڑی تعداد کا تعلق جنوبی ایشیاء کے خطے سے ہے جو بھارت ، پاکستان ، بنگلہ دیش اور نیپال میں موجود ہیں۔ ہیومن رائٹس کمیشن آف پاکستان کی رپورٹ برائے2007کے مطابق پاکستان میں 17لاکھ افراد غلامانہ طرز زندگی گزاررہے ہیں یہ افراد بنیادی حقوق سے محروم ہیں اور انہیں اپنے حقوق کے بارے میں کسی قسم کی آگاہی نہیں۔ بھٹہ مالکان پورے خاندان سے انتہائی کم معاوضے پر کام لیتے ہیں اور بعض اوقات ایک خاندان کئی سالوں تک غلامانہ زندگی گزارنے پر مجبور ہوتاہے۔ پاکستان اور بھارت میں باونڈڈ لیبر کے نام پر اس طرز کی غلامی نما مزدوری اپنی بد ترین شکل میں موجود ہے۔ عالمی سطح پر 20لاکھ بچے انتہائی خطرناک ماحول میں مختلف صنعتوں کا حصہ ہیں جبکہ سالانہ 22ہزار بچے کام کرنے کے دوران ہلاک ہوجاتے ہیں۔ ملک میں لیبر فورس کا 7فیصد بیماری کے دوران بھی کام کرتے ہیں جو مختلف حادثات کے دوران زخمی ہوجاتے ہیں ۔ملک میں سرجیکل انڈسٹری کے ساتھ منسلک بچے انتہائی خطرناک ماحول میں کام کررہے ہیں۔ یونیسف کے مطابق 57لاکھ بچے بیگار کیمپوں میں غلامانہ طرز سے کام کرنے پر مجبور ہیں ۔

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30: Political and diplomatic activities revolving round the possible fallout of the Mumbai carnage on Pakistan-India relations acquired a hectic pace on Sunday with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani going all out to defuse tension that many believe could bring South Asia on the verge of a conflict.

With disturbing signals emanating from New Delhi suggesting the Indian government’s attempt to raise the ante by discussing ‘all possible actions’, President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani secured the support of a large number of politicians, including the main opposition leader Mian Nawaz Sharif, for the way they are handling the situation.

President Zardari contacted a number of world leaders to present Pakistan’s case and ask them to use their good offices to make India realise that it could be suicidal to indulge in a blame-game even before the completion of initial investigations.

The first bit of somewhat encouraging news came from the armed forces when their spokesman said that no movement of Indian troops towards border areas had been noticed.

Some TV channels quoted the chief of Inter-Services Public Relations, Maj-Gen Athar Abbas, as saying that the army was ready for national defence and to handle any untoward situation.

Talking to AFP, Maj-Gen Abbas said: “We have seen reports in media suggesting suspension of ceasefire and movement of troops on the Indian side of the border. As far as the official authenticated reports are concerned, there is no such movement or mobilisation of troops. The ceasefire is holding.”

However, there are reports that the armed forces have been put on high alert in view of a possible military build-up by India along the border.

The prime minister has invited the heads of all political parties to a conference on national security on Tuesday to evolve consensus on how Pakistan should act in the prevailing situation and what steps should be taken if it gets worse.President Zardari called Afghan President Hamid Karzai, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and British Foreign Secretary David Miliband and sought their intervention for normalising the situation.

In another significant development, Prince Karim Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community, arrived in Islamabad and he will meet President Zardari and Chief of the Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

The president’s spokesman, Mr Farhatullah Babar, told Dawn that “the matter of regional security will also come under discussion” during the meeting between the Aga Khan and Mr Zardari on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Muslim League-N extended full support to the government through a resolution it adopted at a meeting presided over by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

“We have assured the government of our complete support and we request the neighbouring country to stop accusing Pakistan of having links with the terrorists involved in the Mumbai carnage,” PML-N information secretary Ahsan Iqbal said.

He said a delegation of his party led by the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, would call on Prime Minister Gilani on Monday. He said the PML-N would attend the conference convened by the prime minister.

Prime Minister Gilani, who postponed his scheduled visit to Hong Kong, said he had received full support from all the democratic forces.

The leaders contacted on Sunday included former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali, AJK Prime Minister Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan, Allama Sajid Naqvi, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Dr Abdul Malik, Israrullah Zehri, Munir Khan Orakzai, Shahid Bugti, Ismail Baladi and Mohammad Hanif Tayyab.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told an international channel that the Indian government had not given to Pakistan any evidence about the Mumbai incident.

“If the Indian government provides proof against any group or individual,

Pakistan will take action against them,” he said. He said good relations with India were in the interest of Pakistan.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has termed the renaming of the NWFP as Pakhtunkhwa a conspiracy to create a separate state at the behest of the United States. 

“The Awami National Party (ANP), in 1940 in Bannu, had already passed a resolution demanding a separate state. Now its government is trying to implement the plan,” PML-N President and Parliamentary Party Leader in the NWFP Assembly Pir Sabir Shah said after the party’s provincial executive committee meeting here on Wednesday.

Sabir Shah briefed newsmen on the details of the meeting he chaired and which was attended by the party’s central and provincial leaders, including former chief minister NWFP Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan, Saranjam Khan and others besides elected members.

The meeting discussed the political situation, the deteriorating law and order, US drone attacks and, what the PML-N leaders called, the killing of innocent citizens and decided to launch a mass contact movement by organising the first rally in Peshawar on November 28. Later, the party would hold protest meetings at Mardan, Kohistan, Chitral and others parts of the province to create awareness among the people.

Pir Sabir Shah said the maps of Greater Pakhtunistan and Greater Balochistan had already been published in a New York magazine and the ANP leadership was hatching a conspiracy to implement the plan of Greater Pakhtunistan, but his party would foil the nefarious designs of the anti-Pakistan forces.

Expressing concern over the PPP Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari’s support to Pakhtunkhwa, Sabir said the ANP should not have raised such a controversial issue at such a sensitive time. Both the federal and provincial governments, he said, should have worked for the solution of major problems of the people instead of raising such controversial issues, which would divide the nation. He said the people of Hazara have now started demanding Hazara as a separate province and he himself had heard such demands in public meetings.

The PML-N president said the ANP’s chief minister was confined only to the Chief Minister House, while the entire province was in flames, adding that he had written a letter to the chief minister, asking him to concentrate on improving law and order.

He clarified his party’s position, saying that he was not supporting the government and his party was in the opposition in the provincial assembly.He said former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani was not a true opposition leader and he had never taken his party into confidence on any issue.

Sabir Shah said his party’s legislators had extended their support to him whenever the opposition leader invited them on any issue.Similarly, the galloping price-hike and lawlessness had made people’s life miserable but the rulers had nothing to offer to the people, Sabir Shah added.

The PML-N leader took a strong exception to the statement of President Asif Zardari wherein he said that with the election of Obama as the US president, the situation in Pakistan would become normal.

He said the people of Pakistan had not elected Obama as president and he would look after the interests of the Americans. He ridiculed President Zardari’s statement seeking information from the US forces before attacks in Pakistan’s tribal areas and said it showed that Pakistani president wanted information to make burial arrangements for those killed in such attacks.

The PML-N leader termed the situation in Swat alarming and asked the government to stop the military operation in the valley.He said former president Pervez Musharraf should have been sent to jail, but the sitting rulers gave the former dictator protocol and safe exit.

Sabir Shah said MQM leaders were staging ‘dramas’ by making hue and cry over the reported Talibanisation in Karachi, adding that the MQM leaders were collecting weapons on this pretext.He rejected the Sindh government’s plan to register the people from Fata in Karachi. “We condemn and reject this move,” he added.

نیویارک( رپورٹ: … عظیم ایم میاں) معزول چیف جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری نے کہا ہے کہ پاکستان میں عدلیہ کو آزادی ملی اور نہ اچھے لوگوں کی حکمرانی آئی، صرف بے خوف ججوں کے آزادانہ فیصلے ہی پارلیمنٹ کی بالادستی قائم رکھ سکتے ہیں، عدلیہ کی آزادی کی ساری تحریک میں بطور جج اور ایک شہری میرا کردار معمولی ہے، حقیقی اور بھرپور آواز پاکستانی عوام اور ساتھی وکلاء نے بلند کی، یکساں انصاف بے خوف جج ہی دے سکتے ہیں، ہر شہری کیلئے یکساں انصاف اور بے خوف ججوں کے فیصلے ہی دہشت گردی کا خاتمہ کر سکتے ہیں، پارلیمنٹ کی بالادستی اور انتظامیہ کے اختیارات اسی صورت میں قائم رہ سکتے ہیں کہ جب بے خوف اور آزاد جج عدالتی فیصلے دیں ورنہ پورا نظام بے معنی اور مفلوج ہو جاتا ہے، پاکستان میں عدلیہ کی آزادی کیلئے آواز اٹھانے پر امریکا اور وکلاء کی عالمی برادری کا شکریہ ادا کرتا ہوں۔ انہوں نے ان خیالات کا اظہار نیویارک سٹی کی بار ایسوسی ایشن کی جانب سے شہر کے مرکزی اور معروف علاقے مین ہٹن میں معزول پاکستانی چیف جسٹس افتخار چوہدری کو نیویارک بار کی تاحیات اعزازی رکنیت دینے کیلئے ایک پروقار اور سادہ تقریب سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کیا۔ اس موقع پر انہوں نے کہا کہ اس اعزاز کے اصل حق دار پاکستانی عوام ہیں جنہوں نے عدلیہ کی آزادی اور بالادستی کیلئے میرا اور وکلاء کا بھرپور ساتھ دیا۔ تفصیلات کے مطابق جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری کو یہ اعزازی رکنیت 9 جنوری 2008ء کو دی گئی تھی تاہم پاکستان میں وکلاء کی جاری تحریک اور جسٹس افتخار پر پابندیوں اور مصروفیات کے باعث وہ امریکا نہ آسکے، لہٰذا یہ اعزازی رکنیت اور شیلڈ انہیں بار ایسوسی ایشن کی خاتون صدر پٹریشیا ہائنز اور نیویارک میں امریکی وفاقی جج جڈراکوف نے تقریب میں پیش کی، جس میں نیویارک کے پاکستانی۔ امریکن وکلاء ، نیویارک بار ایسوسی ایشن کے جڈ راکوف ممتاز اراکین اور ریاست نیویارک کے بعض جج بھی شریک ہوئے۔ گزشتہ دس سال میں جسٹس افتخار محمد چوہدری آٹھویں شخصیت ہیں جنہیں عدلیہ اور آئین و اصول کی خدمات کے اعتراف میں یہ رکنیت پیش کی گئی ہے ۔ یہ واضح نہیں ہو سکا کہ ان آٹھ شخصیات میں کتنے امریکی اور کتنے غیر ملکی شہری ہیں۔ تقریب سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے نیویارک سٹی بار ایسوسی ایشن کی صدر پٹریشیا ہائینز نے جسٹس افتخار چوہدری کی جرأت اور قانون پرستی کی داد دیتے ہوئے کہا کہ پاکستان کے چیف جسٹس عدلیہ کی بالادستی اور جرأت کے ساتھ اور اصولوں کی خاطر سختیاں برداشت کرتے رہے۔ آج ہمیں اپنے بار کی رکنیت تاحیات کا اعزاز پیش کرتے ہوئے خوشی محسوس ہو رہی ہے ۔ امریکا کی وفاقی عدالت کے جج جڈ راکوف نے تقریر کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ سابق صدر مشرف پرویز نے تو یہ سوچ کر افتخار چوہدری کو چیف جسٹس بنایا کہ وہ ان کیلئے حفاظت کا ذریعہ بنیں گے لیکن افتخار چوہدری نے عدلیہ کی بالادستی اور آئین کی حفاظت کا ذریعہ بننے کا جرأتمندانہ فیصلہ کیا۔ انہوں نے بتایا کہ گزشتہ 10 سال میں سات افراد کو یہ اعزازی رکنیت دی گئی ہے۔ جسٹس افتخار چوہدری کو ہمارے بار نے 9جنوری 2008ء کو یہ رکنیت دی تھی لیکن جسٹس افتخار اپنے گھر میں پابند سلاسل، نامساعد حالات اور وکلاء کی تحریک میں مصروف رہے لہٰذا ہمیں اس بات کی دوہری خوشی ہے کہ جسٹس افتخار چوہدری آج نیویارک میں ہیں اور یہ اعزاز حاصل کر رہے ہیں، ہم پاکستان کے وکلاء کی آئین و قانون کی بالادستی کیلئے تحریک پر داد دیتے ہیں۔
