Karachi, November 11, 2009: Pakistan Microfinance Network (PMN), an association of microfinance banks and NGOs formed in 1997 to build capacity of microfinance providers and improve transparency and accountability by publicizing performance measures and standards, was awarded the Best Network of the Year Award at the 2009 SEEP Network Annual Conference held at Washington DC, USA from November 03 to 06, 2009.
The Small Enterprise Education and Promotion (SEEP) Network was founded in 1985 by a group of practitioners who believed that sharing practical experiences within a trusting environment would result in improved micro-enterprise development practices. Today, its members are active in over 180 countries and reach over 23 million micro-entrepreneurs and their families.
The SEEP Network’s Annual Conference, considered the premiere micro-enterprise practitioner event for engaging in new learning on innovative practices and current topics in the field, provides a critical forum where those working in micro-enterprise development can come together to strengthen their collective global efforts to improve the lives of the world’s most vulnerable populations.
The Best Network of the Year Award given to PMN was received by its CEO Syed Mohsin Ahmed. In a message from Washington, he said, “The microfinance sector is Pakistan is relatively quite young and beset with challenges. In this environment, to win the top award is indeed a great achievement not only for PMN but also for Pakistan. We have to thank a number of people and institutions for this accomplishment and especially acknowledge the role of the State Bank of Pakistan in the development of the microfinance sector. The SBP has had a close collaboration with PMN over the last one decade and has been immensely helpful in ensuring that the sector’s views are always taken care of as SBP develops policies for the industry.”
The Pakistan Microfinance Network is a network of organizations engaged in microfinance and dedicated to improving the outreach and sustainability of microfinance in Pakistan. PMN acts as a disseminator of microfinance information with the aim of enhancing the scale, quality, diversity and sustainability of microfinance providers in Pakistan.
